Resting in Christ – Refusing Rest

Jeremiah 6:16

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”

Reflection:

What an absolutely absurd response. God…I repeat…GOD…just offered you rest. Why in the world would you say no? Why would you refuse an offer from God almighty for rest? Don’t you want to rest?!? Don’t you want peace for your soul!?! Why would you ever say, “Nah, I’ll pass” to an offer for rest from the Lord!?!

That is the absurdity of your sin. Sinning is completely irrational. You know full well that a life of sin apart from the peace of the Lord is going to lead to your emptiness and misery…yet you choose it anyways!

This morning, consider the absurdity of choosing a life of sin. Compare such a life to a life at peace and rest through Jesus Christ who wins salvation and gives it to you freely. Don’t let this day be an absurd day. God offers you rest for your soul through faith in Jesus Christ. Rest in Him.

In Christ,
