Replacing Evil with God – The Robe of Righteousness

Writer: Travis YonkmanTravis Yonkman

Zechariah 3:4

“And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.””

Reflection:

This week the devotions have focused on replacing evil with God. As we close our time together and begin this day, we look at a passage of Scripture where God tells us that He replaces our evil with His own goodness. You need not fret and panic that you have not done enough to remove your sin and live a righteous life. Ultimately, it is God who removes your sin from you, just as one would remove filthy garments from your body. Ultimately, it is God who has made you righteous by placing His own cloak of righteousness upon you, the pure vestments of the righteous life of Christ given to you by grace. Yes, it is good and right for you to remove the sin from your life and replace it with righteousness by the power of God. Yet your hope is not that you have saved yourself and completed this process in your own strength. Christian, your hope and your joy is that God has forgiven your sins and made you righteous through Jesus Christ the Lord!

In Christ,
