Replacing Evil with God – The New Self

Colossians 3:5-10

“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you…But now you must put them all away…seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”

Reflection:

So you are finally hate your sin and want it out of your life. That is good. Now that you have arrived at this level of wisdom in your life, see here what God instructs you to do next: Do not play with your sin. Do not let it live in your life just a little bit. Kill it. Put it to death. Put them away completely and forever. Ask God to do it for you and He who is mightier than all else will gladly slay the wickedness in your life. If you truly want that evil out of your life, then you must not only kill your sin in the power of God but you must the put on the new self. Replace your old ways with new ways. Do not just stop your old ways then sit there doing nothing, saying, “Don’t go back to your old ways, don’t go back to your old ways.” Replace those old ways with new ways. Turn your mind to Jesus Christ, the founder and perfector of your faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross. As you are thrilled with His love for you and the new life He has given to you, go do something! Go do something for His glory! Replace the old with the new! Even if you cannot walk, go do something! Pick up the Word and read. Even if you cannot see, go do something! Turn your heart to God in prayer and praise! Jesus Christ has died for you both to free you from the tyranny of sin and to bring you into new life.

In Christ,
