Matthew 12:43-45
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”
Reflection:
Do you want to rid your life of an evil habit? This short passage of Scripture tells you how.
Do not just stop your bad habit. You will fail. You will go right back to it. Maybe you can stop for a day. Maybe you can stop for a week. Who knows? Maybe you can stop for months! But you will go back to it. Why? Because you have not replaced your bad habit with something beneficial! Instead, you are just trying to stop which results in you just sitting there thinking over and over again to yourself, “Don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it.” Sure, you swept the demon from the house for a while, but eventually, the demon will kick in the door and charge back into your life, bringing more of its friends with it. Instead, what you need to do is replace your sin with actively doing good. Replace your evil habit with the Lord, with prayer, with active service, with any form of actively glorifying God.
