The Underappreciated Suffering of Jesus – Mockery

Matthew 9:24

“He said, ‘Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.’ And they laughed at him.”

Reflection:

No one should mock God. Ever.

God should not even have to destroy such a person (although that would be fitting). Think of the fury of the heavenly angels who praise His Name night and day. Think of the hosts of heaven whom God undoubtedly had to hold back at this moment. The angels, with power enough to fight against Satan and demons, are most certainly watching puny and pathetic human beings laugh at Jesus. Imagine their fury! Imagine their righteous indignation! Yet not only did Jesus have to personally endure the humiliation of being laughed at by sinful, finite humans. Undoubtedly, He had to say to His angels, “Stay your hand! This is part of my shame. This is part of my cross to bear.”

He endured it for you.

In Christ,
