The Gift of the Holy Spirit – Teaches You How to Pray

Writer's picture: Travis YonkmanTravis Yonkman

Romans 8:26

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

Reflection:

What words could you possibly say that are worthy of God’s time? What truths could you utter that He does not already know? Will you teach God something? Will you give Him advice? What could you say in prayer that would be pleasing to God?

The Holy Spirit knows. Not only does He know, but He wants to tell you! It is not a secret that He keeps hidden, wrapped in His arms as He runs away from you. The Holy Spirit knows how to pray in such an excellent way and He wants to teach you how to do so! Think of it – you can speak words that please God. God is pleased with a contrite heart. The Spirit teaches you not only that general truth, but He teaches you how to be humble and repentant. God is pleased with your praise of Him. Again, the Spirit does not only give you the right words, but He also teaches you how to truly adore and glorify Him in your heart. God is pleased with your thanks. God is pleased with your desire to serve Him, glorify Him, and follow Him. How wonderful it is to have God Himself, the very Holy Spirit, with you to teach you how to do all these things so that they might flow out of you from a heart that truly loves God and desires to serve Him!

In Christ,
