Genesis 31:40
“There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.”
Reflection:
These are the words of a man named Jacob. He was recalling a time in his life where, because of his love for a woman named Rachel, he worked non-stop for years. He lost sleep and gave up comfort for the one he loved. Does not our Lord deserve the same?
When was the last time you lost sleep for the Lord? When was the last time you chose to stay awake and pray, even for a few minutes? When was the last time you arose early as our Lord arose to go and be with the Lord?
When was the last time you gave up comfort for the Lord? When was the last time you fasted as our Lord commanded in order to be more mindful of the comfort He gave up for you?
When your days on earth reach their end, let it not be said of you, “There was a person who loved sleep,” or “there was a person who most highly prized comfort.” Instead, let it be said of you, “There was a person who loved the Lord the most.”
In Christ,
