Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Reflection:
Put the following items in order of importance from the most important to the least important. If you need a pencil and paper to keep your options in order then go get them. It might take a while, but it will be worth it to take the time and go through this list this morning. Put the most important thing first and end with that which is less important:
- Entertainment
- Jesus
Have you finished? If you need more time to think, then take it. However, if you have reached your conclusion, then let me share some thoughts.
If you are a Christian, then you likely put our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, first on the list in order of importance. Yet what does it mean practically to put Jesus first before entertainment? It means to put Him first in the content of your entertainment. If you are able to say, “I do this to the glory of God,” then you are putting Him first. It means to put Him first in your time. Even good things can done to excess. If you have had your fill of entertainment and will benefit no more by another minute, then move along to the next choice that will glorify God. It means to put God first in love. Do you think of Him most? Do you daydream of Him, of praising Him, serving Him? Do you find your love for Him leads your mind to a life of constant prayer? This is what it means to put God first today.
In Christ,
Pastor Yonkman
