Matthew 13:3-8
“A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
Reflection:
Many people think highly of themselves, praising their growth which is nothing more than a temporary growth that will soon whither and die. “I have gained money!” they say. “I have attained peak physical health!” they say. “I know the secret to worldly happiness!” they say. Then soon the whither and die, not only losing all of the growth suddenly, but then being cast into the fire where their previous growth is used only as fuel.
Grow deeper. Let your roots sink deep not by living in a shallow way only for this world, but by deep thought and deep faith that is rooted in Jesus Christ the Lord. Stand fast by these roots that God causes to grow through your faith so that you will not blow away through the winds and storms of this world. Don’t be shallow. Grow deep. Draw your life from your holding fast to Christ so that, through His life in you, you might produce fruit that will nourish and feed others for all eternity.
In Christ,
