Psalm 147:11
“The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”
Reflection:
The steadfast love of God – what a firm and solid hope! Christian, rejoice for just a moment that you have such a well-founded hope! You do not hope in the strength of a mighty man whose strength may fail for countless reasons. You do not hope in the wit of a human mind that is limited and finite. You do not hope in pieces of paper that may or may not be worth something tomorrow. You hope in the steadfast love of God! There is nothing in all of creation so secure as the steadfast love of God! Even if you placed a diamond in a vault made of steel and placed that vault in a fortress made guarded by the greatest earthly army, still, the steadfast love of God is even more secure than such a well-guarded treasure. He is God. He is infinite. His power and ability are limitless. He does not change.
Not only is your hope in the steadfast love of God a solid hope because of who God is – your hope in the steadfast love of God is a solid hope because of what God has done. He is no supposed friend who says He will help you but then never shows up. God has already proven His love to you. He could not go one step further to prove His love – He has gone as far as possible. He has given His greatest love, His own Son. He has given up heaven. He has suffered the pain of hell and the humiliation of death. You need not wonder whether or not God loves you. He does and He always will. He has already done everything possible to prove His love to you.
No matter what your day ahead of you might hold, Christian, you have an unshakeable hope in the steadfast love of God.
