Predicting Christmas – A Perfect Government

Isaiah 9:7

“Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.”

Reflection:

Perhaps this seems like the most absurd prophecy of them all. Isaiah has predicted that God will become a baby. He has predicted that the little city of Galilee will play a major part in all of history. He has predicted that enemies will no longer threaten. But a perfect government? Come on, Isaiah. There is simply no way that idea could ever be fulfilled in this broken world.

Unless, of course, the amazing happens. Unless, of course, God Himself rules over His people without threat for all eternity.

But will you get to live there? Do you belong? How can you, sinner as you are, get in and stay in such a blissful kingdom?

That, my friend, is the gift of God to you through Jesus Christ. That is the real joy of Christmas.

In Christ,
