1 John 2:1
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
Reflection:
God does not say, “My little children, you must know that you will sin all the time without stop and there is nothing I can do about it. Sorry.” Jesus Christ has died for your sin so that you might be free from it and live in it no more! God is with you through the Holy Spirit to both kill sin in your life and to help you live in righteousness.
Do not spend your time fretting today and thinking, “Oh no, what if I sin? I know God can help me overcome temptation…but what if?” Christian, here is what happens if you sin: You “have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” He will never leave you or forsake you. Your justification is secure. You have been made perfect. But, by the power of God in you, grow today in sanctification! God did not give you His Word so that you may sin. He writes to you, guides you with His Spirit, and encourages you today, so that, for His glory, you may not sin. How wonderful to be free!
In Christ,
